Exchange Buildings
Cardiff, 16 February 1917

Dear Sirs,
Cardiff Institute of Shipbrokers with reference to our interview with you this morning when we ventured to plead the claims of this institute on your generous support, we have already received donations of 250 guineas from Messrs Hansen Bros, & Messrs Lysberg Ltd, and anticipate equally generous support from other representative firms whom we have yet to see.
The proposed institute will be on similar lines to the London Institute, its chief objects being the promotion & protection of interests identified with Shipbrokering, Chartering, & Coal Export generally, as well as the establishment on a sound financial basis of a Benevolent Fund for the assistance of necessitous members.
It is proposed to invest the donations in the War Loan as the nucleus of the Benevolent Fund.
Counting on your favorable response.
We are, Dear Sirs,

J. H. Thomas, member of the Committee
John [M. Gleox]
