Dear Sirs,
We beg to acknowledge receipt of your special letter of the 24th inst. and to confirm the conversation which we had with you today with regard to the matters referred to in your letter of the 18th inst. when we pointed out that on reflection we had come to the conclusion that the hulk of the work would he in connection with the accounts of the various steamers inasmuch as the chartering would all he done by Messrs Furness, Withy & Co.
We ventured to suggest to you that in case there were any differences between the Hudson's Bay Co. & the Owners of the time chartered steamers in connection with present & past charters it would be very advisable that these should be settled between them as we feel it would be difficult to take over from the Company matters with all the details of which you would not be conversant and it would be very advantageous to start with a clean slate. You told us you would have an interview this afternoon and intended to go very fully into the matter with your Government and with Mr. Revillon who is at present in Paris.
We are, dear Sirs,
Yours truly,

James Burness & Sons
