Messrs James Burness & Sons
London E. C.

Dear Sirs,
We are obliged for your favour of the 8th inst. and are very glad indeed to see that Mr. Dodsworth of Messrs Furness Withy & Co. Ltd. had thought the information which you gave him of the opening of our new branch at Beyrouth would be of considerable interest to the managers of the Prince Line Ltd.
We are considering this, together with the contents of your favour of the 7th, and will reply to both very shortly when, if we decide to do it, we shall also write to Mr. Torry to ask him to approach the Prince Line Ltd. as kindly suggested by you.
Of course, the whole difficulty in the matter does not reside in the actual business itself, which we wish to have, but to know whether the Prince Line Ltd. will not mind our working for them, and with the Ellerman Line also, and vice-versa.
Further, we must not forget that the main shipping line to Beyrouth before the war was a French one, the Messageries Co. with whom we are on the best of terms, and the whole question requires a little thinking over and possibly diplomacy.
We are, dear Sirs,
Yours truly,

Worms & Cie
